At the age of just 32, Roxy Burger boasts a television and film career spanning 2 decades. After numerous international and local TV commercials and Disney film roles, Roxy landed her spot on MNETs flagship children’s channel, KTV, which saw her voice expertise and natural presenting ability flourish.
After graduating with her Bachelors Degree in Audiovisual Production Management from the University of Johannesburg and later her Honours Degree in Brand Strategy, Roxy left KTV to pursue her career as a TV Producer and worked as a Freelance Producer and Brand Strategist. She was also the co-owner and founder of Alexandra Knoxx Bridal Couture which she has subsequently sold off to a new owner.
During her time at varsity, campus radio came a calling and Roxy felt the need to pursue a career on the airwaves. After 3 years at UJFM, Roxy entered the 94.7 Highveld Stereo Hot Jocks competition, which saw her place second and continue as a DJ on the station for the next 2 years.
In 2010, Reality TV came a calling and Roxy joined the latest celebrity crew of Castaways on Survivor South Africa Maldives. She may not have won the million but after 16 days on the island she was definitely a favourite amongst fans of the show with her loud opinions and under-dog strategy.
In 2011, she also created and produced 5FMs (TV)5 which aired every Friday evening on SABC3 bringing fans closer to the biggest radio brand in the country.
Roxy presented Season 2 of SABC3s Flash in late 2011, a news entertainment platform, which was the perfect showground for her incredible fashion sense, timely wit and her ability to appeal to crossover audiences.
Roxy was seen on VUZU TVs #10over10 and is a fan favourite on social media platforms. Especially after Trevor Gumbi crowned her the Queen of Wooty: white girl booty…
But the icing on top of this rather large cake was the announcement that Miss Burger was the newest MTV VJ on MTV South Africa. Not only was she hosting the channel’s flagship entertainment property, MTV Choice, but she was also the voice of the channel, bringing a lively and local flavour to channel 130 on DSTV.
Roxy got straight in there in August 2013 and worked the red carpet at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards in Brooklyn NYC where she got to witness, first hand, Miley Cyrus’ *ahem* thought provoking live performance. She interviewed the likes of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, 30 Seconds to Mars, Jennifer Hudson, 2 Chainz and Rita Ora. She most definitely held her own at that rather international affair.
She has interviewed, amongst others, Rihanna, Larry King, Chris Brown, Liam Neeson, Sam Worthington, Jessica Alba, Maroon 5, President Thabo Mbeki… to name just a few.
Roxy then went on to join one of South Africa’s most glamorous shows, Strictly Come Dancing. She hosted Season 7 of the reality dance show with esteemed presenter Katlego Maboe and was invited back for Season 8 in June 2015. LIVE TV is Roxy’s forte so it’s an understatement to say she had the time of her life!
Continuing her stay on SABC 3, Roxy then landed a spot on one the longest running magazine show on South African television, Top Billing. She joined esteemed presenters such as Bonang Matheba, Jeannie D, Jonathan Boynton-Lee and Ursula Chikane.
In April 2015 it was announced that Roxy would be formally joining the 5FM family as producer of 5FM’s YouTube channel, 5FM TV. The channel covers a broad spectrum of content from events to interviews and spoofs. The channel can be viewed at www.youtube.com/5fmtv
