As much as Hip Hop has a legendary background world wide, South Africa, too, has a History of it’s own. There is no doubt that we, like International countries, have our very own Hip Hop Heroes and veterans, too.
From the likes of Brasse Vannie Kaap, Prophets Of the City and Black Noise in the SA Hip Hop music culture, it is a fact that we have to pay homage to many of the contributors in the Hip Hop Dance Industry as well.
With that being said, Elric ‘Versatyle’ Prinsloo, is no stranger to this. Growing up in the underground scene, he soon became known for his breaking skills and presence in the legendary breaking crew: 021 Static Bboys. With this crew, he travelled and performed throughout the country, the world, hosted competitions, judged and became a familiar face on TV, for the youth of South Africa
Being a part of 021 Static Bboys, afforded him to be a resident dancer on the Yotv show called “Big Yo”. This can be seen as the biggest step in his career and would mark the beginning of his journey as a television personality and role model. Travelling became frequent and soon he found his dancing feet on popular stages like the South African Music Awards (SAMAs), Channel O Awards, Miss South Africa Teen, MTV Staying Alive Concert with P Diddy, Alicia Keys and Usher, The Rand Show for 4 consecutive years, Redbull and Coke a Cola, YoTv, Renault, Telkom Gaming and Expo, Samsung, Standard Bank and Sony Eriksson Tours between 2007 and 2011.
He then managed to travel the world performing and competing at Battle Of The Year in Germany, performing alongside international artists like Black Eyed Peas, De La Soul, Limp Bizkit and Cypress Hill in Brussels, performances in France, the USA, Switzerland, Vietnam, Dubai (The X Games), Amsterdam, Seychelles, and Spain.
Versatyle became a familiar face on the silver screen as soon he found himself starring, performing and featuring in famous shows such as “Backstage”, BBC, Fokus, KykNet, Selimatunzi, The Phat Joe Show, Gazlam, ESPN, SABC 1 (Judge on the Hit Dance TV Show: Turn It Out 1 & 2) and the hip hop TV show, Shiz Niz.
Not only on television, but also featuring in local and international magazines and newspapers like Hype, Huisgenoot, GQ, Cape Argus, Die Burger, Mail and Guardian, Rapport, to name a few.
With that being said, it is safe to say that Elric ‘Versatyle’ Prinsloo has established a name in the entertainment industry. He has touched the lives of many people across our country and the world!
